The
Hon'ble Prime Minister on the Independence Day (15th
August,2001) announced a new scheme for the benefit
of slum dwellers called Valmiki Ambedkar Awas Yojana
(VAMBAY). This scheme is primarily aimed at ameliorating
the housing problems for slum dwellers living below
the poverty line in different towns and cities all
over the Country.
Under
this scheme, the funds will be available for C/o
dwelling units and up gradation of existing units.
There is also a component for catering to the basic
amenities such a Sanitation and Water Supply.
This
component has been named "Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan"
and is aimed at providing Community Toilet Complexes
to be maintained on Community Based Organisation
(CBO) of Slum Dwellers themselves.
"VAMBAY"
is a new Centrally Sponsored Scheme shared on a
50:50 between Central and State Governments to be
matched by an equal amount of long term loan from
"HUDCO" to be availed against usual State Government
Guarantee.
For
implementing the "VAMBAY" the State Government
has provided its share of Rs. 26.00 lacs on 13th
March,2002.
