Origin
of the Scheme :
The
Solid Waste generation in Urban local Bodies is an alarming
problem which is posing a serious challenge to all the
Urban Local Bodies. The pace of urbanisation and unprecedented
influx of tourist from all over India has put Municipal
administration in an awkward situation.
So,
keeping in view the problem of Solid Waste, the Solid
Waste Management Projects for scientific disposal of
Biodegradable Solid Waste in the Urban Local Bodies
are being taken up
in phased manner. During the year 1998-99, five towns
were selected under Solid Waste Management
projects.
MAIN
OBJECTIVE OF THE SCHEME :
The
main objective of these projects is to make Urban Local
Bodies capable of using scientific methods to handle
biodegradable Solid Waste in their area.
FUNDING PATTERN OF THE SCHEME:
The
funds are being provided by the Hirnchal Pradesh Pollution
Control Board and 12th Finance Commission..
